Brian Marks Master Class

We were very pleased to have Dr. Brian Marks, Chair of the Piano Department at Baylor University, for a master class at Adam’s November 16th

Those in attendance heard very good playing and a nice variety of pieces. Seascape by William Gillock, the Bach Invention in F Major, the Rachmaninoff g# minor Prelude, the Opus 72#1 Chopin Nocturne, the Birds by Rameau, and the 1st Movement of the Chopin 2nd Sonata were all played very well!

Join us in the spring, we will have many more performances and master classes including Sophia Gilmson of UT Austin, Kiyoshi Tamagawa of Southewestern University in Georgetown, Fritz Gechter of TAMIU in Laredo, Stephen Burnaman of Huston Tillotson, and more!

Austin Chamber Ensemble: Dr. Tobin

Adam’s Music House was thrilled to host the first concert of the Austin Chamber Music Ensemble’s 2019-2020 season!

Many thanks to Marti Ahern for arranging and inviting Dr. Tobin, Artistic Director at Adam’s, to play a solo recital and a lovely 4-hand piece by Clara Schumann with Marti Ahern!

We had a full house as Dr. Tobin played the late Mozart Sonata K. 570,. Estampes by Claude Debussy, the Chopin bb minor Scherzo, and a short piece Opus 15 by Clara Schumann. This concert was in honor of Chopin and Clara Schumann’s birthdays and the performers made connections among them.

Thanks for all who attended! Our next event is a master class Saturday November 16th from 2-5 with Brian Marks, Chair of the Piano Department at Baylor University.

TAMIU Piano Students Return to Adam’s!

It was wonderful to have Fritz Gechter return with students from TAMIU in Laredo for the third time for a master class with Dr. Tobin. Tatiana Gorbunova also came and brought students and we all had a great time, starting with lunch at Cenote.

Joe Bratcher, founder of Adam’s, stopped by for the first half of the class which included a Schubert Impromptu, the Scriabin 5th Sonata, a piece by Janacek, Rondo Capriccio of Mendelssohn, the first Debussy Prelude, and other works.

After the class Dr. Tobin joined everyone for dinner at Hanks Road House and a very nice concert given by the Austin Symphony in the Long Center. Symphony Fantastique was played with gusto and the soloist in the Saint-Saens Cello Concerto was very sensitive.

Enrique Rangel Returns!

We were very pleased to have Enrique return to play solo and 4 hand piano with Dr. Tobin for a warm and appreciative crowd.

Enrique is in medical school but his playing has really matured since he last played at Adam’s December 20th, 2019. The Medtner Opus 38 was well controlled, played with more color and depth than before. Enrique took full advantages of the colors and sounds available on our 7’4″ Bosendorfer 225.

After a break, Enrique returned with Dr. Anthony Tobin to perform one of the masterpieces of the 4-hand piano repertoire, the Schubert f minor Fantasy. For this intimate piece they chose our smaller instrument, the 6’7″ Bosendorfer 200. This mellow instrument served the colors of the Schubert and, as a piano built in Austria, closely relates with Schubert’s Austrian identity.

We wish Enrique well with his medical studies and hope he will continue with the piano. We plan to invite him to return for another program!
